| NEW ORLEANS, LA (May 18, 2008) – ActiveVideo Networks™, which is creating a new viewing environment that infuses TV with Web content and interactivity, today announced the results of an initial study that shows the ability of its ActiveVideo® Distribution Network to generate strong viewer involvement, using both existing online and broadcast metrics.
A comprehensive analysis of data collected in a Tier 2 United States market beginning January 1, 2008 indicates that more than 63% of ActiveVideo-enabled households have accessed content delivered via the service. In addition, the data show that the average length of an ActiveVideo visit during that period has been 16 minutes, 35 seconds, positioning ActiveVideo favorably within the universe of online destinations, and that more than 90% of viewers have made repeat visits.
At the same time, ActiveVideo has demonstrated its ability to perform favorably within the traditional cable programming environment. During the measurement week of April 13-19, 2008, from 6-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, more than 6.0% of available households engaged with ActiveVideo content. ActiveVideo content achieved a 9.7 cumulative audience rating during that same measurement week.
ActiveVideo Networks utilizes Unica’s NetInsight web analytics solution to generate actual usage data from set-top boxes, rather than relying on samples and estimates.
“While the data we have collected for this initial analysis reflect activity only in a single market, we believe that it underscores both the ‘stickiness’ of Web content and interactivity on television, and the value to advertisers of measurements that bridge the online and television environments,” said Ed Forman, executive vice president, strategy and corporate development, and chief strategy officer for ActiveVideo Networks. “We’re seeing that our ability to generate real viewer involvement and collect auditable results is creating an environment that can stimulate increased advertiser involvement with interactive television.”
The analysis of data from the beginning of 2008 onward also positions ActiveVideo favorably among such leading Web brands as Google, eBay, YouTube and others. ActiveVideo’s average usage of 2 hours, 47 minutes per month was greater than that of those brands, based on an Online Report of major web brands issued earlier this year.
ActiveVideo allows television viewing to be shaped by a wide range of entities, including traditional and Web-based programmers, local cable affiliates, consumer electronics companies, advertisers, social networks and even the audience itself. ActiveVideo immerses consumers in an engaging experience that combines Web video, Web 2.0 functionality and traditional television – including today’s widescreen, 16:9, Dolby-surround HD home entertainment environment.
With ActiveVideo, viewers can navigate a completely interactive environment of both linear and broadband programming including rich interfaces and graphics optimized for TV and remote control navigation; social networking; personal media; niche content; and targeted, actionable advertising. ActiveVideo programmers include a wide variety of leading brands, including Fox, CNN, HSN, TAG Networks, Reuters, AccuWeather and others.
