| MARLBOROUGH, MA and SAN JOSE, CA (April 29, 2008) – Camiant, Inc., the leading provider of policy control and application assurance technology to service providers worldwide, and ICTV®, provider of ActiveVideo® solutions that infuse TV with Web content and interactivity, announced today that they have completed integration testing of a joint offering that increases and simplifies the delivery of new interactive services by cable operators.
The integration between Camiant’s Universal Edge Resource Manager (UERM) solution and the ICTV ActiveVideo Distribution Network has been designed to enable operators to more efficiently provide and manage interactive Web media and on-demand television solutions. In addition, the integration ensures that operators using the UERM solution can deploy ActiveVideo leveraging their existing investment in edge QAMs, and with no impact on existing services.
“The deployment of interactive services that bring the Web media experience to the television is a threshold that is now being crossed by cable operators,” said Randy Fuller, vice president of business development at Camiant, Inc. “With the completion of our integration with ICTV, our Universal Edge Resource Manager solution is able to provide increased assurance that operators can deploy and generate new revenues from ActiveVideo while maintaining the highest quality of service across all product lines.”
“As cable operators deliver the advanced services that will help them to maintain their competitive edge, the network management and policy control that enable multiple services to share a single pool of bandwidth are becoming more critical than ever,” said Michael Taylor, senior vice president of business development for ICTV. “The Camiant UERM solution significantly increases the ability of operators to efficiently deploy and manage ActiveVideo in a way that is complementary to switched digital video, VOD, EBIF and tru2way services.”
ActiveVideo allows programmers and cable operators for the first time to immerse viewers in an engaging experience that combines Web video, Web 2.0 functionality and traditional television. With ActiveVideo, viewers can navigate a completely interactive environment of both linear and broadband programming including rich interfaces and graphics optimized for TV and remote control navigation; social networking; personal media; niche content; and targeted, actionable advertising.
ActiveVideo programmers include a wide variety of leading brands, including Fox, CNN, HSN, TAG Networks, Reuters, AccuWeather and others.
Camiant's Universal Edge Resource Manager (UERM) employs a control plane intelligence that manages the sharing of edge resources among multiple services including Video on Demand (VOD), Switched Digital Video (SDV) and television-based interactivity. By taking into account factors such as disparate time-of-day usage of certain services, coupled with probability distribution of customer demand for various services, Camiant's Universal Edge Resource Manager maintains a stateful view of network edge resources and dynamically allocates resources based on the business rules to attain maximum bandwidth efficiency. Its standard-based architecture enables seamless integration of new services and edge devices.
