ICTV Announces First European Showing of New Channels

New channels from Reuters and Fox among Programming to be Shown at IBC 2007 September 7-11 in the Amsterdam RAI (Stand 5.238).

LOS GATOS, CA (September 6, 2007) New immersive television channels from Reuters and Fox will be amongst the next generation of programming being delivered from point of origin to the ICTV stand (#5.238) by the ICTV ActiveVideo Distribution Network (AVDN) at IBC  These new channels join those already taking advantage of the “develop once, deploy everywhere” advantages afforded by AVDN which allows channels to be delivered to every digital cable and IPTV set-top box, regardless of hardware, middleware and guide differences.

Launched earlier this year in the US, ActiveVideo™ television channels seamlessly combine broadband video, graphics, viewer interaction and targeted, interactive advertising to provide an engaging customer experience. With ActiveVideo, broadband-driven channels are personalized in the network and delivered to the television, dramatically reducing the cost of program production whilst keeping the features of high video quality, immediacy and remote control navigation that viewers expect from television.

“Early viewer use and feedback from our initial US deployments has reaffirmed the ability of ActiveVideo to help operators and programmers win ‘the battle for the last 10 feet’ to the living room television,” said Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ICTV.  “The engaging nature of the ActiveVideo Channels will help operators retain the value of their video packages, and will allow programmers to leverage their ‘pole positions’ as the dominant providers of video content to the TV.”

Amongst the other ActiveVideo channels being shown by ICTV at IBC are the Home Shopping Network (HSN), AccuWeather and a Gaming Channel from TAG Networks. In partnership with RGB Networks, ICTV will also be showing how ActiveVideo capabilities can be combined with graphic overlay elements to allow viewers to act on embedded “triggers” and move seamlessly from linear channels to broadband-based programming and targeted, interactive advertising. Drawing heavily from the success of Internet based advertising, ICTV will also be showing interactive advertising showcase channels where leading brands have total control over their brand delivery experience and can use ActiveVideo’s transactional capabilities to interact with their customers.
